TARA, a company in the small Balkan state of Montenegro, has developed a polymer framed pistol called the TM-9. The pistol has three interchangeable backstraps, a picatinny rail and its magazines hold 17 rounds of 9mm. It definitely bears a resemblance to the Glock 17 Gen4.

KEY FEATURES
State-of-the-art characteristics like anti-corrosive surface protection, high capacity double stack magazines and piccatinny rails to mount tactical lights are the answer to the requirements of modern forces. In addition the TM-9 features an ambidextrous magazine release button and a special lanyard connection point to cover all possible scenarios. The DARE-Trigger system allows for fast and simple training of new users and for a smooth transition for those who come from old conventional systems, in order to reach maximum safety and effectivity with minimum effort and costs.

TRIGGER SYSTEM
The Tara trigger operation is striker-fired and it’s special DARE System (Double Action Rapid Engagement) resets the firing-pin after a 3mm release of the trigger. This allows fast precision taps after the first round fired in Double Action. After a misfire there is no need to rack the slide, a second striker action can be initiated by simply pulling the trigger again. The trigger pull of 2,8 kg is comparably soft for a DA system. There is no need to pull the trigger in order to disassemble the firearm. This helps to prevent accidental discharges during cleaning procedures, and there are two more additional internal safeties.

LOW BORE AXIS (22MM)

The bore axis (distance between barrel center and beaver-tail) of the TM-9 is extremely low. The extraordinary design of the slide and the ergonomic grip made it possible to provide a system with a bore-axis being almost 10mm lower than most comparable polymer-pistols.

This guarantees a felt recoil reduction and the fastest possible target acquisition after every round fired.

HARDNESS AND SURFACE TREATMENT

The Barrel and Slide of the TM-9 are machined from solid stainless steel bars and undergo a special surface treatment to guarantee extreme hardness and corrosion resistance.

All remaining metal parts within the system are also treated with special anti-friction and anti-corrosion processes. This allows us to give an extended 50.000 rounds guarantee on all main parts of the pistol.

MAGAZINES

Each Tara Pistol Set comes with 2 magazines of 17 rounds capacity in 9mm. The Magazine Tubes are made of anti-corrosive steel with a special ant-friction coating to provide maximum speed and durability in real-world scenarios.

The ammunition capacity can be checked on the back-side indicator of the mag-tube and the polymer floor-plate allows to drop the magazine in a fast change without damaging the coating. The Polymer Receiver of the TM-9 is fully ambidextrous, the Magazine Release Catch can be pushed from either side without the need to change for left or right hand use.

POLYMER FRAME

The TM-9 pistol comes with a rigid and ergonomic Polymer frame, which not only leads to an enormous weight reduction but also offers some special features such as a Picatinny equipment rail to mount tactical lights and laser modules. The grip itself can be adjusted in size by choosing one of the 3 back-straps that are delivered with every set and can be mounted easily without need of any special tools.

The slide rails are not moulded into the Polymer but have an integral steel inlay in order to make them resistant to any kind of frame flex. An enlarged trigger-guard allows the use of gloves. The receivers are available in different colors.

SIGHTS

TARA Pistols are supplied as standard with steel three-dot sights. Night sights of any renowned manufacturer can be used on the standardized dovetail mounting system. The line of sights is 165,7mm.

CHAMBER INDICATOR

The extended extractor of the TM-9 is a visual and tactile chamber indicator, showing the user at any time whether a cartridge is chambered or not.

BUILT IN AMORERS TOOL

The cavity between the back-side of the magazine tube and the back-strap of the grip was used to implement an armorers pin-punch to allow emergency manipulations that would go beyond a classic field-strip. But the tool has also got a second function and allows for the secure attachment of a lanyard.

INTERCHANGABLE GRIP

The TM-9 pistol can be adjusted to an individual shooter’s hand by changing the grip size. Each pistol set is delivered with 3 different back-straps which, can be mounted by simply using the built in armorers tool. They are available in the sizes Small, Medium and Large and change the trigger-distance (from trigger point to the beaver-tail). The pistol is supplied with the large size fitted as standard.
